Sarcophagus Time capsule
In connection with the 6th grade Social Studies curriculum (Ancient civilizations), we learn about the importance of art forms in Ancient Egypt. I was inspired by a lesson created by John Post called Mummy Time Capsules. As part of this unit, we learn:

- Appliqué, Textures, Piercing, Subtracting (decorating techniques)
- Slip-n-Score (method used to attach 2 pieces of clay together)
- Students have a global awareness of art-making (Egyptian art; cross-curricular with S.S.)
- Students experiment with hand-building techniques (develop craft)
- Students create a slab constructed sarcophagus (envision)
- Students apply different decorating techniques to the form (creativity & develop craft)
- Students create an artifact for their time capsule (ELA connection)
